The Arizona Diamondbacks are heating up at exactly the right time.

Behind another strong offensive performance and a steady outing from Merrill Kelly, the Diamondbacks defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field, completing a dominant three-game sweep and pushing Arizona back above .500 during a critical stretch of the 2026 MLB season.

Arizona outscored San Francisco 23-8 across the series and showcased the kind of balanced baseball that could turn the National League West race into a much tighter battle moving forward. From timely hitting to clutch pitching and momentum-shifting defense, the Diamondbacks controlled the series from start to finish.

For the Giants, the sweep marked another painful chapter in a season rapidly slipping away.

Diamondbacks Finish Off Giants to Complete Series Sweep
The Diamondbacks entered Wednesday looking to finish what they started after taking the first two games of the series in convincing fashion. Arizona delivered again, overcoming an early deficit before pulling away in the middle innings to secure the 6-3 win.

San Francisco struck first in the opening inning when Casey Schmitt launched a solo home run to give the Giants an early 1-0 advantage. The Diamondbacks answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning after Ketel Marte came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Geraldo Perdomo.

The Giants regained the lead briefly in the second inning behind a strong at-bat from top prospect Bryce Eldridge, who collected his first major league double and helped San Francisco move ahead 2-1.

Arizona responded once again.

The Diamondbacks took control in the third inning with aggressive offense and continued pressure on Giants starter Tyler Mahle. Arizona added two runs in the frame to jump ahead 3-2 before delivering the biggest blow of the afternoon during a three-run fifth inning that extended the lead to 6-3.

From there, Merrill Kelly and the Arizona bullpen slammed the door shut.

Veteran right-hander Merrill Kelly continued building momentum following his recent dominant performances and earned the win for Arizona.

Although the Giants were able to score early, Kelly settled into rhythm and limited further damage while keeping San Francisco hitters off balance through the middle innings.

Kelly’s ability to stabilize the game after the rocky opening innings proved critical in allowing Arizona’s offense time to take over.

The veteran improved to 4-3 on the season while continuing to provide much-needed leadership for a Diamondbacks rotation looking to regain consistency throughout May.

Meanwhile, Giants starter Tyler Mahle continued to struggle.

Mahle allowed consistent traffic on the bases and failed to slow down Arizona’s lineup as his difficult season continued. The loss dropped Mahle to 1-6 on the year and raised even more concerns surrounding San Francisco’s pitching staff moving forward.

Ketel Marte Continues to Fuel Arizona’s Momentum
Few players impacted this series more than Ketel Marte.

Coming off his dramatic walk-off home run in Tuesday night’s victory, Marte once again played a major role offensively while setting the tone atop Arizona’s lineup.

Throughout the series, the Diamondbacks’ offense looked far more explosive and confident than it had earlier in the month. Arizona consistently attacked early in counts, created pressure on the basepaths, and capitalized on scoring opportunities.

While the Diamondbacks celebrated momentum, the Giants left Phoenix facing major questions.

San Francisco dropped to 20-30 on the season following the loss and fell 10 games below .500 for the first time since 2019.

​The series exposed nearly every weakness currently hurting the Giants:

Tuesday’s heartbreaking walk-off loss already created frustration inside the clubhouse, but Wednesday’s defeat completed a disastrous road trip for a team that entered 2026 with far higher expectations.

Despite offseason investments and veteran additions, San Francisco has struggled to find consistency throughout the first two months of the season.

The pressure surrounding the organization is only increasing.

Arizona’s sweep could become a major turning point in the season.

The Diamondbacks entered the series searching for momentum and emerged looking like a team capable of climbing back into the National League playoff picture.

More importantly, Arizona finally looked complete.

The pitching stabilized.

The offense exploded.

The energy inside Chase Field returned.

And perhaps most importantly, the Diamondbacks played with confidence.

If Arizona can continue receiving production from stars like Ketel Marte while getting reliable outings from Merrill Kelly and the pitching staff, the Diamondbacks could quickly become one of the most dangerous teams in the National League moving into summer.

For now, the Diamondbacks accomplished exactly what they needed:
