The Arizona Diamondbacks looked dead in the water for most of Tuesday night at Chase Field.

Then Ketel Marte happened.

Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, Arizona mounted a dramatic late rally before Marte launched a three-run walk-off home run to left field, giving the Diamondbacks an unforgettable 5-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants in front of 19,548 fans at Chase Field. It marked the first walk-off home run of Marte’s career and secured both the game and series win for Arizona.

The Diamondbacks improved to 24-23 on the season while the struggling Giants dropped to 20-29.

Giants Strike Early with Back-to-Back Power
Arizona grabbed the first run of the night in the opening inning after Corbin Carroll tripled to right field and later scored on a throwing error by San Francisco shortstop Willy Adames.

But the Giants answered immediately in the second inning with a barrage of offense against Arizona starter Ryne Nelson.

Rafael Devers tied the game with a solo homer to center field — his sixth home run of the season — before Adames followed with a solo blast of his own to left field just one batter later.

San Francisco wasn’t done there.

Matt Chapman singled before Daniel Susac ripped an RBI double to center, extending the Giants lead to 3-1 and putting Arizona on its heels early.

From there, pitching took over.

Pitchers Settle In
After the rough second inning, Ryne Nelson settled down and kept Arizona within striking distance. Nelson worked through seven innings while navigating multiple traffic-filled situations against a Giants lineup featuring Devers, Adames, Chapman, and Luis Arraez.

San Francisco starter Landen Roupp was equally effective.

Arizona repeatedly threatened but failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities throughout the middle innings. The Diamondbacks stranded runners in key situations during the seventh and eighth innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the eighth after Nolan Arenado grounded into an inning-ending double play.

At that point, it appeared the Giants were on the verge of evening the series.

Then the ninth inning chaos began.

Ninth Inning Madness at Chase Field
Arizona entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 3-1 and down to its final three outs.

Ildemaro Vargas opened the inning with a single to right field before Lourdes Gurriel Jr. flew out and Gabriel Moreno struck out swinging.

With two outs, Adrian Del Castillo kept the Diamondbacks alive with an RBI single to center, scoring Vargas and cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Moments later, Ryan Waldschmidt reached first base on catcher’s interference — a bizarre and massive turning point in the inning. The Giants challenged the call, but after review, the ruling stood.

That brought Ketel Marte to the plate.

And Marte delivered the moment of the season.

Facing new Giants reliever Matt Gage, Marte crushed a three-run walk-off homer to left field, sending the Chase Field crowd into a frenzy and completing Arizona’s stunning comeback victory.

Bullpen Holds Door Open
Arizona’s bullpen played a major role in allowing the comeback to happen.

Kevin Ginkel tossed a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts after working around a leadoff walk. Jonathan Loaisiga followed with a perfect top of the ninth inning to earn the victory after retiring all three batters he faced.

Caleb Kilian was charged with the loss for San Francisco after allowing the walk-off blast to Marte.
