One day after the Arizona Diamondbacks won a 4-3 nail-biter over the Pirates, the DBacks offense gave a little more support to their starter Brandon Pfaadt.

Pfaadt looked strong, only allowing a single hit through the first four innings. Oneil Cruz hit a monster shot to right field in the top of the first, off the first pitch from Pfaadt that he saw. Pfaadt followed that shot by getting the next 11 Pittsburgh batters out.

For the Diamondbacks, they would tie the score up in the bottom of the first inning with a Christian Walker RBI single to left field, scoring Katel Marte. Arizona would only manage one run in the first frame, despite loading the bases up and sending seven batters to the plate. The score was tied, 1-1, at the end of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Corbin Carroll would untie the game with a shot to the right field bleachers, giving Arizona a 2-1 lead. After Geraldo Perdomo singled and then advanced to second on a throwing error, Katel Marte would hit a home run to right field, bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of the Diamondbacks.

The Pirates would tie the game in the fifth inning. Joshua Palacios, Ke’Bryan Hayes, and Joey Bart would lead off the inning going single, single, double to make the score 4-2. Ji Hwan Bae would hit a sacrifice fly to score Hayes, and Michael A. Taylor would bring in the tying run on an RBI single.

The Diamondbacks offense would answer in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jake McCarthy led off the inning with a single to left field. Eugenio Suarez was then hit by a pitch. And Corbin Carroll would walk. Geraldo Perdomo would break the tie with a sacrifice fly to right field. Katel Marte would match that with another sacrifice fly to right field, bringing the score at the end of the fifth inning to 6-4, in favor of Arizona.

Oneil Cruz would lead off the top of the sixth inning with a triple to center field. He would be brought in on an RZBI ground out by Connor Joe, cutting the Diamondbacks lead down to 6-5.

In the bottom of the sixth, after a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. single to left field, and a Christian Walker hit-by-pitch to start the inning, Joc Pederson would hit a pinch-hit 2-RBI triple to right field. Jake McCarthy would follow with an RBI single to right center, bringing the score to 9-5. And that’s where the offense would end for the evening.

The final score of the game was 9-5, with the Diamondbacks now taking the first two games from Pittsburgh of the three-game series. Brandon Pfaadt would get the win, improving his record to 5-6 on the season. Quinn Priester would get the loss for Pittsburgh.

The final game will be tomorrow at 1:10PM. Arizona will send Yilber Diaz against the veteran Mitch Keller for Pittsburgh.

One final note on the evening…..

​Prior to the game, the Arizona Diamondbacks had a pre-game ceremony, formerly inducting Randy Johnson and Luis Gonzalez into their brand-new Hall of Fame. Both players played key roles helping the Diamondbacks secure the only championship they had when they defeated the New York Yankees in 2001. Both individuals are also on the top of multiple organizational records, most of which I see standing for a very, very long time. If you’re going to start a Hall of Fame, you could not have picked two better players as your first members.
