The #1 Cause of Failure For Entrepreneurs

Saturday, November 11, 2023

The journey to success is often laden with obstacles, and when faced with them, entrepreneurs find themselves at a crossroads. The first option is to perceive these challenges as insurmountable barriers, akin to stop signs that halt progress. Unfortunately, this perspective often leads individuals to abandon their dreams, retreating to an unsatisfying and joyless existence.

Alternatively, one can view obstacles as failures, providing valuable feedback for making adjustments and forging ahead. Some achieve great success by adapting, while others persist in their efforts but struggle to break through the barriers hindering their progress.

Today, I want to delve into the experiences of individuals who tirelessly grind every morning without making significant headway toward their envisioned goals. These dedicated individuals meticulously check all the boxes and follow the right steps, yet find themselves unable to reach the desired destination. What is it that holds them—and perhaps many of us—back?

Consider my own story. As a full-time entrepreneur for the majority of the past six years, I've shouldered the responsibility of generating my income without external oversight. Despite not being affluent or having a massive following, I persistently grind each day. Recently, I confronted a perplexing question: What is the primary factor impeding my realization of true potential? What is the key obstacle preventing me from stepping into the life I envision?

The answer, I discovered, is fear—specifically, the fear of success and the fear of failure. What if achieving my goals changes how others perceive me? Will success invite opportunists seeking to take advantage of my financial standing? While this fear might be a factor, my ability to eliminate toxic relationships suggests it isn't the root cause.

Upon deeper reflection, I realized my true impediment is a fear of judgment and criticism. This revelation surfaced during a visualization exercise where I pictured myself speaking on stage at an event. As I imagined the audience's thoughts, a physical tightness gripped my throat, and discomfort set in. It dawned on me: my fear isn't success or failure; it's the fear of being judged.

Attending an event featuring Marcus Lemonis, I had an epiphany—my most significant obstacle is my own imagination. My fear is a creation of my mind. Strangely, I found myself more at ease in a combat zone than standing before 5,000 people as a speaker. But now, armed with self-awareness, I've set a new goal for my 46th year: overcoming this fear and speaking on stage within the next two years, with Motorhead's "Evolution" as my walk-on music.

No longer can I let fear dictate my path. I refuse to allow my imagination to sabotage my vision. It's time to dismiss the words of others that threaten to impede my journey. I won't let intangible fears wield power over my success. This realization, I hope, serves as a guide for you to move forward—reject the creation of unreal situations and live life as it's meant to be lived. It's on!
