First Inning: D-backs Strike First
Brandon Pfaadt came out sharp for Arizona, needing just 9 pitches to retire the side in the 1st, including a strikeout against the aggressive Orioles hitters.

In the bottom half, Corbin Carroll, who entered the game with a 12-game on-base streak, extended it to 13 by lining the very first pitch he saw into center. Geraldo Perdomo followed with a single to right, moving Carroll to third. After a strikeout from Pavin Smith, Josh Naylor delivered a sac fly to left to give the Diamondbacks an early 1-0 lead.

Innings 2-3: Pfaadt Settles In, Carroll Hits the Pool
Pfaadt worked around a leadoff single in the 2nd and was aided by a 6-4-3 double play to keep the Orioles off the board.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Corbin Carroll came up again and launched a solo shot into the Chase Field pool area, extending the lead to 2-0. That marked Carroll’s 3rd homer of the season.

Meanwhile, Pfaadt continued to dominate. He struck out Jackson Holliday and Gunnar Henderson back-to-back to end the 3rd, racking up his 3rd K of the game.

Fifth-Inning Firestorm: Smith & Naylor Go Back-to-Back
The 5th inning was where the wheels fell off for Baltimore.

After a Perdomo single, Pavin Smith crushed a 2-run homer into the pool to make it 4-0. One pitch later, Josh Naylor hit his first homer as a D-back, going back-to-back and sending one deep into the right-field bleachers. Chase Field erupted as Arizona took a commanding 5-0 lead.

Baltimore went to the bullpen, but it didn’t help. Jake McCarthy doubled, Alek Thomas was hit by a pitch, and Tim Tawa singled home both runners. By the end of the inning, it was 7-0, Arizona.

Pfaadt Escapes, Orioles Miss Opportunities
Baltimore had its best shot to score in the 4th after back-to-back walks to Rutschman and O’Hearn, but a wild pitch and some heads-up defense led to a critical out at second. Pfaadt induced a lineout from Cedric Mullins to end the threat and preserve the shutout.

He came back out for the 6th and got another double play to end the inning. Six scoreless innings in the books.

Late Innings: More Runs, More Damage
In the 8th, Geraldo Perdomo added another exclamation point by hitting a solo homer into the right-field bleachers—his 6th of the year—to make it 8-0.

Pavin Smith followed with a double, and Josh Naylor tacked on another RBI with a single to left, scoring Smith and pushing the lead to 9-0.
