The Arizona Diamondbacks continued their power surge with a dominant 6-0 win over the Texas Rangers at Chase Field. Led by a pair of homers from Christian Walker and a stellar outing from ace Zac Gallen, Arizona showcased their hot offense and lockdown pitching, extending their home run tear since August 1st.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have led the Majors in homers since August 1st with 61. They have hit 25 homers in their last 14 games. And let’s not forget that their original clean-up hitter, Christian Walker, has recently rejoined the team.

And the fireworks continued on early in today’s meeting against the Texas Rangers. With Nathan Eovaldi on the mound, the Diamondbacks tee’d off on him in the bottom of the first. After he got the first two Diamondbacks looking on questionable strikes, Joc Pederson stepped up and absolutely crushed one to right center field, over the pool. Then Christian Walker came up and he hit an opposite-field homer to right, making the early score 2-0 in favor of the Diamondbacks.

Zac Gallen, the Diamondbacks ace, followed up a scoreless first frame, with a 1-2-3 inning in the second. He also had three strikeouts up to this point. Arizona would put two on in the bottom of the 2nd with back-to-back singles by Eugenio Suarez and Geraldo Perdomo. But Nathan Evoldi would strike out two in the bottom frame to hold the Diamondbacks scoreless in the inning.

The Rangers were put down in order in the top of the third inning, including another Gallen strikeout. This time he caught Josh Smith looking. In the bottom of the third, the Diamondbacks got to Evoldi again with ANOTHER Christian Walker opposite-field homer, driving in Joc Pederson. This made the score 4-0 in favor of the home team.

After Zac Gallen struck out two more in the top of the fourth, the Rangers went scoreless once again. Eovaldi did a good job working out of trouble in the bottom of the fourth when he stranded two Arizona runners in scoring position. Arizona still led 4-0 heading to the top of the fifth.

Gallen shut down the Rangers once again in the top of the fifth and added another strikeout. The Diamondbacks failed to add to their lead as they went down in the order in the bottom of the fifth but still led 4-0.

Kevin Ginkel came in for relief of Zac Gallen in the top of the sixth. He allowed runners on first and second, but got Josh Jung to strike out looking to end the inning.

The left-hander Walter Pennington came in and relieved Nathan Evoldi in the bottom of the sixth. He held the Diamondbacks scoreless.

Ryan Thompson came in for relief in the top of the 7th. He shut down the Rangers in order with one fly outs and two ground outs. Despite Corbin Carroll getting hit to lead the bottom of the 7th, the Diamondbacks failed to score.

AJ Puk came in for the Diamondbacks in the top of the 8th and promptly struck out all three batters that he faced. In the bottom of the 8th, the Diamondbacks scored on a double to right by Pavin Smith, scoring Jake McCarthy from first. That made the score 5-0.

Later in the inning, Jose Herrera would knock Smith in with another double to right field. They finished the bottom of the 8th up 6-0.

The Diamondbacks “fireballer” Justin Martinez came in to pitch in the top of the 9th. After allowing a line out to right by Adolis Garcia, Martinez promptly struck out the next two batters, including getting Josh Jung on a 100 mile-per-hour heater for the final strikeout.

With their pitching staff in top form and their bats as hot as ever, the Arizona Diamondbacks proved once again why they’re a force to be reckoned with. With another game against the Rangers tomorrow, the D-backs will look to continue their momentum and strengthen their position in the playoff race.
