On a night filled with energy, color, and celebration, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins delivered a rollercoaster of a game that came down to the final pitch. Despite a late rally in the ninth inning that had fans on their feet, the D-backs dropped a heartbreaking 9–8 decision to the visiting Marlins.

🔥 How It Happened – Inning by Inning
Pitching Duel Early On:
Merrill Kelly and Eury Pérez traded zeroes through the first three innings, combining for six strikeouts and limiting baserunners. Arizona drew first blood in the 3rd inning thanks to Jake McCarthy's heads-up base running, stealing second, advancing to third on a wild pitch, and scoring on an Alek Thomas sac fly.

Marlins Respond in the 4th:
A string of doubles from Otto Lopez, Agustin Ramirez, and Kyle Stowers flipped the score, giving Miami a 2–1 lead. Arizona threatened in the bottom half, but stranded a pair.

Costly Mistakes in the 5th:
An error and a balk put Miami in position to score big, and they did. Otto Lopez's RBI infield single, combined with a throwing error by Kelly, plated two more. Miami took a 4–1 lead.

Jake McCarthy homered to right to lead off the bottom of the 5th. After a walk and a wild pitch, Geraldo Perdomo launched a 2-run homer into the Chase Field pool, tying the game 4–4.

Miami Takes Control Again:
Stowers launched a solo shot in the 6th, and Javier Sanoja's RBI triple pushed the Marlins ahead 6–4. Heriberto Hernandez added another homer in the 8th, and Otto Lopez broke things open with a 2-run blast in the 9th, making it 9–5.

🐍 Ninth Inning Rally Falls Just Short
With the crowd roaring, the D-backs made it interesting in the bottom of the 9th. Singles by Grichuk, Thomas, and Herrera loaded the bases. A walk to Perdomo made it 9–6. Then Pavin Smith came through, driving in two more with a single to center to make it a one-run game.

​With the tying run 90 feet away and the go-ahead run on first, Tim Tawa grounded into a crushing double play, ending Arizona’s comeback bid just shy of the finish line.
