The Arizona Diamondbacks looked headed for extra innings Tuesday night in St. Louis. Instead, they delivered a stunning ninth-inning knockout punch and then survived a furious Cardinals comeback to earn a dramatic 4-3 victory at Busch Stadium.

For eight innings, offense was nearly impossible to find. Both teams received dominant pitching performances, and neither lineup could break through. Then everything changed in the final frame.

Pitchers Rule the Night
Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez turned in one of his best performances of the season, keeping the Cardinals scoreless and matching St. Louis pitch for pitch. Every time the Cardinals threatened, Rodriguez and the Diamondbacks bullpen responded.

With the tying run on base and the Cardinals threatening to complete an improbable comeback, Arizona closer Brandyn Garcia stepped up in the biggest moment of the night.
