This one got out of hand in a hurry.

The Arizona Diamondbacks closed out their series in Milwaukee on Thursday looking to build off momentum—but instead, they ran into a red-hot Brewers lineup that never let up in a 13-1 loss at American Family Field.

From the very first inning, it was clear this was going to be a long day for Arizona.

Milwaukee wasted no time jumping on Michael Soroka, putting up three runs in the opening frame and immediately forcing the Diamondbacks into catch-up mode. The pressure didn’t stop there. The Brewers added three more in the third and kept piling on, turning what started as an early deficit into a full-blown rout before Arizona could settle in.

Soroka, who had been one of Arizona’s most reliable arms early in the season, simply didn’t have his best stuff. He lasted just three innings, giving up eight runs on ten hits, and took his first loss of the year. It was the kind of outing that shifts momentum instantly—and Milwaukee took full advantage.

The biggest difference-maker? William Contreras.

Every time the Diamondbacks needed a big out, Contreras seemed to be in the middle of the action. He delivered a complete performance at the plate, driving in runs, scoring, and consistently keeping innings alive. His impact was felt early—and often—and he set the tone for a Brewers offense that never slowed down.

Arizona did manage to get on the board in the fourth inning.

After falling behind big, the Diamondbacks finally strung together a moment of offense when Corbin Carroll came around to score on an RBI knock from Lourdes Gurriel Jr. It cut into the deficit briefly, but any hope of a comeback was quickly erased as Milwaukee continued to answer every push.

And here’s where this one stings even more.

The Brewers actually lost their starting pitcher early in the game—but Arizona couldn’t capitalize. Instead of flipping momentum, the Diamondbacks struggled to generate consistent offense against Milwaukee’s bullpen, allowing the game to drift further out of reach.

By the final innings, the focus had shifted from winning to simply getting through the game.

Arizona’s bullpen worked to absorb the damage, even turning to position players to finish things off, while Milwaukee continued to tack on insurance runs. The final line told the story: 13 runs on 14 hits for the Brewers, compared to just 1 run on 6 hits for the Diamondbacks.

There were a few small positives.

Carroll found his way on base and scored the lone run. Gurriel Jr. delivered the only RBI. And the lineup showed flashes—but not nearly enough to keep pace in a game that quickly turned one-sided.

But overall, this was a reset-type game.

The Diamondbacks drop the series and now have to regroup quickly. Games like this happen over the course of a long season—but the key is how you respond next.
