Everything changed in the sixth inning.

The Diamondbacks finally broke through when Ketel Marte lined an RBI single to score Arizona's first run of the afternoon. That hit didn't just get the Diamondbacks on the scoreboard—it completely shifted the energy inside the stadium.

St. Louis suddenly lost its command.

Gabriel Moreno showed tremendous patience by drawing a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-2. Moments later, Tyler Locklear did exactly the same thing, forcing in another run without the Diamondbacks needing a hit. What had been a seven-run mountain suddenly became a manageable four-run deficit, and for the first time all afternoon, Arizona believed it had a chance.

One inning later came perhaps the most exciting moment of the game.

Geraldo Perdomo launched a deep drive that took an awkward bounce in the outfield, allowing him to race around the bases for an electrifying inside-the-park home run. The hustle play cut the Cardinals' lead to 7-5 and completely transformed the atmosphere inside Chase Field. Fans who had been sitting quietly just an inning earlier suddenly found themselves roaring as Arizona continued to chip away.

Momentum had officially swung to the home dugout.

The comeback reached its dramatic peak in the eighth inning.

Facing his former team, Nolan Arenado delivered one of the biggest swings of the Diamondbacks' season. The veteran third baseman crushed a game-tying two-run home run into the Arizona night, erasing the seven-run deficit and bringing Chase Field to its loudest point of the season.

From 7-0 to 7-7.

The Diamondbacks had completed one of baseball's most improbable rallies.

Arizona's bullpen deserves just as much credit for making the comeback possible.

After the Cardinals built their early lead, the Diamondbacks' relievers slammed the door the rest of the afternoon. They combined to keep St. Louis scoreless over the final five innings of regulation, giving Arizona's offense the time it needed to slowly climb back into the game.

The Cardinals had one final opportunity in the top of the tenth inning but failed to capitalize after a costly baserunning mistake kept the automatic runner from scoring. It was the opening Arizona needed.

The Diamondbacks made sure they didn't waste it.

In the bottom of the tenth, Max Kepler stepped to the plate with a chance to end it.

Kepler lined a sharp RBI double into the outfield, allowing the winning run to race home as the Diamondbacks poured out of the dugout to celebrate one of their signature victories of the 2026 season. Gloves and helmets flew through the air as Kepler was mobbed between first and second base while Chase Field erupted around him.

The box score only tells part of the story.

Arizona finished with eight runs on ten hits after appearing completely lifeless through the first half of the game. Ketel Marte's RBI single started the rally. Gabriel Moreno and Tyler Locklear each delivered disciplined bases-loaded walks that shifted the momentum. Geraldo Perdomo's inside-the-park home run became one of the highlights of the season, while Nolan Arenado's dramatic game-tying blast against his former club will likely be remembered for years. Max Kepler supplied the finishing touch with the walk-off double that completed the comeback.

For St. Louis, the loss will be one that lingers.

The Cardinals collected 13 hits, built a commanding seven-run lead, and received five dominant innings from Andre Pallante. Yet once the bullpen entered the game, everything unraveled. Arizona's patience at the plate forced mistakes, momentum snowballed inning after inning, and a game that seemed completely under control turned into one of the Cardinals' most painful defeats of the year.
