The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to make Chase Field a nightmare for the San Francisco Giants.

Behind one of Brandon Pfaadt's best outings of the season, another monster performance from Ketel Marte, and an early offensive explosion led by Lourdes Gurriel Jr., the Diamondbacks rolled to an impressive 8-2 victory over the Giants Tuesday night at Chase Field. Arizona improved to 43-42 on the season while remaining a perfect 8-0 against San Francisco in 2026, setting up another opportunity to complete a season sweep of a three-game series on Wednesday night.

Before a crowd of 20,420 inside Chase Field, the Diamondbacks needed just 2 hours and 40 minutes to secure another convincing victory over their National League West rivals. More importantly, Arizona climbed back over the .500 mark as the club continues pushing toward postseason contention entering July.

Brandon Pfaadt earned his first victory of the season, improving to 1-1, while Giants starter Landon Roupp fell to 5-8 after Arizona chased him from the game before the fourth inning.

The Diamondbacks wasted absolutely no time taking control.

After Pfaadt escaped a first inning that began with a Luis Arraez single, Arizona immediately answered in the bottom half. Ketel Marte grounded out to begin the inning before Geraldo Perdomo worked a walk and quickly stole second base, his 12th stolen base of the season. Gabriel Moreno followed with another walk, bringing Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to the plate with two runners aboard.

Gurriel delivered the game's biggest early swing.

The veteran launched a towering three-run home run to left field, his second homer of the season, instantly giving Arizona a commanding 3-0 advantage. Max Kepler followed with a double, but the Diamondbacks settled for three runs after Nolan Arenado struck out to end the inning.

That would be more than enough support for Pfaadt.

The right-hander looked composed from the opening pitch, retiring hitters efficiently while mixing his pitches effectively throughout his outing. San Francisco managed only scattered traffic through the first five innings, with Arraez's third-inning triple representing their lone significant scoring threat. Pfaadt stranded him there by getting Bryce Eldridge to pop out, preserving the shutout.

Meanwhile, Arizona continued applying pressure offensively.

The Diamondbacks broke the game wide open during the third inning.

Gabriel Moreno started the rally with another walk before Max Kepler singled to center. Nolan Arenado then lined a base hit to left to load the bases with one out. Although Pavin Smith struck out looking, rookie center fielder Jorge Barrosa demonstrated outstanding patience by drawing a bases-loaded walk to force home Moreno.

That was only the beginning.

Ketel Marte followed by ripping a two-run single into left field, scoring both Kepler and Arenado and extending Arizona's lead to 6-0. The rally finally ended after Giants manager Bob Melvin turned to Adrian Houser in relief and Geraldo Perdomo lined out to second.

By that point, Chase Field had become a celebration.

Defensively, Arizona continued making every routine play behind Pfaadt.

The Diamondbacks turned one of the game's biggest defensive highlights in the fourth inning after Rafael Devers reached on a walk. Jung Hoo Lee grounded into a crisp 3-6-3 double play, erasing the Giants' only baserunner of the inning and allowing Pfaadt to continue cruising.

San Francisco finally broke through in the sixth.

Luis Arraez completed another outstanding individual night by launching a solo home run to right field, his fourth homer of the season. Already owning both a single and triple, Arraez finished just a double shy of hitting for the cycle.

Arizona quickly answered.

Leading off the bottom of the sixth inning, Ketel Marte continued one of the hottest stretches of his career by crushing his 17th home run of the season over the right-field wall.

The home run carried even greater significance.

Marte has now homered in four consecutive games and has gone deep in five of his last six contests, further strengthening what has become an All-Star caliber campaign. Every time Arizona has needed a big hit over the past week, Marte has seemingly delivered.

The Giants added one more run in the seventh when Rafael Devers connected for his 15th home run of the season, another solo shot, trimming the deficit to 7-2. Arizona's bullpen, however, refused to let San Francisco build any momentum.

Taylor Clarke entered during the sixth inning and limited the damage before Ryan Thompson retired both hitters he faced in the seventh. Juan Morillo handled a clean eighth inning, while Drey Jameson closed the door in the ninth by striking out Bryce Eldridge before finishing off the victory.

Arizona added one final insurance run in the eighth.

Jorge Barrosa reached with a perfectly executed bunt single before advancing to second. Corbin Carroll later drew a walk, bringing Gabriel Moreno back to the plate.

Moreno delivered again.

The Diamondbacks catcher lined an RBI single through the middle, scoring Barrosa and extending Arizona's advantage to the eventual final score of 8-2.

Moreno quietly assembled another outstanding offensive evening, reaching base four times while continuing to solidify the middle of Arizona's lineup. Gurriel finished with four RBIs between his three-run homer and later double, while Marte continued his remarkable offensive surge with three RBIs of his own.

Kepler added two hits, Arenado collected a base hit during the third-inning rally, Barrosa reached base twice while driving in a run, and Perdomo reached safely twice while stealing a base.

Every portion of Arizona's lineup contributed.

Equally encouraging was Pfaadt's performance.

After entering the night searching for his first victory of the season, the right-hander displayed improved command, limited hard contact, and kept one of baseball's most dangerous middle-of-the-order bats largely quiet outside of the two solo home runs surrendered after his exit had already begun. His outing gave Arizona exactly what it needed following several bullpen-heavy games and could prove to be an important confidence builder entering the second half of the season.

Now the Diamondbacks have an opportunity to continue one of baseball's most one-sided season series.

Arizona is now 8-0 against San Francisco in 2026 and can complete its third sweep of the Giants this season on Wednesday night at Chase Field. Zac Gallen is scheduled to take the mound for Arizona against Giants rookie Trevor McDonald, with first pitch once again scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Arizona time.

With the offense heating up, Ketel Marte playing arguably the best baseball of his career, Brandon Pfaadt showing encouraging signs, and the Diamondbacks climbing back above .500, Arizona suddenly has real momentum as July baseball begins.

​The postseason race is far from over, and the Diamondbacks are beginning to look like a team that intends to stay in it.
