The Arizona Diamondbacks showed tremendous resilience Friday night at T-Mobile Park, battling back from a five-run deficit before ultimately suffering a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to the Seattle Mariners in 10 innings. Despite collecting 13 hits and mounting one of their most impressive comebacks of the season, Arizona was unable to capitalize on several late scoring opportunities as Randy Arozarena delivered the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning.

For much of the evening, it appeared the Diamondbacks were headed toward another disappointing road loss. Seattle jumped on Arizona ace Zac Gallen early and built a commanding lead behind a historic performance from veteran shortstop J.P. Crawford. However, the Diamondbacks refused to quit, producing a furious sixth-inning rally that completely changed the complexion of the game and nearly resulted in one of their most memorable victories of the 2026 season.

Seattle Strikes First Against Zac Gallen
The Mariners wasted little time putting pressure on Arizona's starting pitcher.

Leading off the bottom of the first inning, J.P. Crawford launched a solo home run to give Seattle a quick 1-0 advantage. The early blast energized the home crowd and set the tone for what would become a career night for Crawford.

Seattle continued to apply pressure in the third inning when Julio Rodríguez connected on a two-run homer, extending the lead to 3-0. Rodríguez has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball throughout May, and his power surge continued against the Diamondbacks.

Arizona struggled to generate offense against Mariners starter George Kirby during the opening innings, leaving runners stranded and failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Geraldo Perdomo Sparks Arizona's Offense
The Diamondbacks finally broke through in the fourth inning thanks to one of their most consistent offensive contributors.

Geraldo Perdomo crushed a solo home run to right field, trimming Seattle's lead to 3-1 and giving Arizona some much-needed momentum. Perdomo has become one of the most reliable bats in the Diamondbacks lineup this season, and his home run helped keep Arizona within striking distance.

Unfortunately for the Diamondbacks, Seattle immediately answered back.

In the fifth inning, Crawford struck again, launching his second home run of the game. The two-run blast pushed the Mariners' advantage to 5-1 and marked the first multi-home-run game of Crawford's Major League career.

At that point, Arizona faced a four-run deficit against one of the American League's most effective bullpens.

Diamondbacks Explode for Four Runs in the Sixth
Just when it appeared Seattle was in complete control, the Diamondbacks delivered their biggest offensive inning of the night.

The rally began with Corbin Carroll reaching base and Perdomo continuing his outstanding game with a double. Gabriel Moreno followed with one of the biggest hits of the evening, ripping a two-run double into the outfield gap to bring Arizona within two runs.

The Diamondbacks weren't finished.

Ildemaro Vargas drove in another run before José Fernández delivered a clutch RBI single that tied the game at 5-5. What had once been a seemingly comfortable Mariners lead had completely disappeared in a matter of minutes.
Arizona's dugout came alive, and suddenly the momentum had shifted entirely in favor of the visitors.

Mariners Respond Immediately
The excitement of Arizona's comeback was short-lived.

In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Luke Raley connected on a solo home run to restore Seattle's lead at 6-5. The home run represented Seattle's fourth long ball of the night and highlighted the biggest difference between the two clubs: power hitting.

While Arizona relied on timely hitting and manufacturing runs, Seattle consistently generated offense through the home run ball.

Even after surrendering the lead again, the Diamondbacks continued to battle.

Ninth-Inning Heroics Force Extra Innings
Facing Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz in the ninth inning, Arizona once again demonstrated its resilience.

The Diamondbacks scratched across the tying run to make it 6-6, silencing the Seattle crowd and forcing extra innings. Muñoz, one of baseball's premier closers, was charged with a blown save as Arizona extended the game.

The comeback was especially impressive considering the Diamondbacks had trailed by as many as five runs earlier in the contest.

Suddenly, Arizona had an opportunity to steal a game that had seemed all but lost.

Missed Opportunity in the Tenth
Under Major League Baseball's extra-inning rules, Arizona began the 10th inning with a runner automatically placed on second base.

The Diamondbacks quickly advanced the runner to third with just one out, creating an ideal scoring opportunity. Unfortunately, they were unable to deliver the critical hit needed to bring home the go-ahead run.

The inability to score proved costly.

After escaping the jam, Seattle entered the bottom half of the inning with renewed confidence and a chance to end the game.

Randy Arozarena Delivers the Walk-Off
Seattle's opportunity came quickly.

After the Mariners put themselves in position to score, Randy Arozarena stepped to the plate and lined a double into the gap. The ball easily scored the winning run and sent the Mariners pouring out of the dugout to celebrate a dramatic 7-6 victory.

For Arizona, it was a crushing finish after spending much of the night clawing its way back into contention.

Top Performers for Arizona
Geraldo Perdomo led the offensive attack with a tremendous all-around performance. The Diamondbacks infielder finished 3-for-6 with a home run, a double, an RBI, and seven total bases.

Gabriel Moreno also played a pivotal role in the comeback, collecting three hits and driving in two runs, including his critical sixth-inning double.

José Fernández added multiple extra-base hits and delivered a key RBI during Arizona's rally.

While the offense eventually found its rhythm, the early damage against Zac Gallen proved difficult to overcome. The Arizona ace allowed five earned runs and surrendered three home runs over five innings of work.

What This Loss Means for Arizona
Despite the defeat, there were several positives for the Diamondbacks to take away from the game.

The offense showed tremendous fight by overcoming a significant deficit on the road. Players throughout the lineup contributed, and Arizona once again demonstrated that it can compete with quality teams even when facing adversity.

However, the loss also highlighted areas that continue to challenge the club. Early pitching struggles, missed scoring opportunities, and an inability to capitalize with runners in scoring position ultimately proved costly.

The Diamondbacks left numerous runners on base and failed to score the automatic runner from third base in the 10th inning, a sequence that may have been the defining moment of the game.

In the standings, Arizona fell to 31-25 while Seattle improved to 29-29 with its fourth consecutive victory.

​Although the Diamondbacks left Seattle without a win, their comeback effort served as a reminder that this team remains capable of fighting back against any opponent, regardless of the circumstances.
