The Chic-Fil-A Peach Bowl delivered one of the most thrilling games of the College Football Playoffs as the Arizona State Sun Devils, led by Coach Kenny Dillingham, faced off against the Texas Longhorns. In a season where ASU defied all odds, climbing from a predicted last-place finish in the BIG 12 to champions, their magical run came to an intense conclusion in Atlanta. The game was a rollercoaster of momentum, ending in a dramatic double-overtime victory for Texas.

Texas won the toss and deferred. Arizona State will have the ball to start the game.

After a 1st down run by Cam Skattebo of ten yards, the Texas defense holds up and forces a punt. However, Texas is called for running into the kicker, giving Arizona State a first down on the 4th and 4 play.

The Sun Devils would continue their drive into Texas territory. They would settle for a 39 yard field goal by Carston Kiefer, giving ASU the lead over Texas, 3-0 with 8:59 remaining in the opening quarter.

Texas would start their first drive of the game on their own 23 yard line after a short return. And they would waste almost no time getting on the board. After a 54 yard pass from Quinn Ewers to Matthew Golden started the drive, Ewers would then found DeAndre Moore Jr. down the right sideline for the 23 yard touchdown. The Longhorns now lead Arizona State 7-3 with 8:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Arizona State would start their drive on their own 25 after the touchback. The Longhorns defense would step up and hold the Sun Devils offense to three and out, forcing a punt. And just like the offense struck like lightning, this time it was the special teams turn. Silas Bolden would return the punt for the 75 yard touchdown and Texas has exploded on the scoreboard with an early 14-3 lead.

After another touchback, Arizona State would start their next drive on their own 25 yard line. They are in desperate need of an answer or this game can get out of hand real fast. Unfortunately, the Texas defense would have other ideas and hold the ASU offense to another three and out, forcing another punt.

After a flag for holding on Texas, the Longhorns would start their next drive on their own 30 yard line. But this time it would be the Sun Devils defense that would step up and force a punt. They would start their next drive on their own 31 yard line.

The Sun Devils offense would march into the Longhorns territory with a good mix of short passes and runs by Cam Skattebo. At the end of the first quarter, the Sun Devils had the ball on the Texas 25 yard line with a decision to make on 4th and 2, down 11 on the scoreboard. The Sun Devils offense went for it and Cam Skattebo was stopped on the play short of the first down marker. Turnover on downs.

The high powered Texas offense drove right down the field (with the help of a pass interference penalty on Arizona State) and capped off their drive with a 30 yard field goal by Bert Auburn. But an offsides by Arizona State making the down at 4th and 2, the Texas offense came back on the field and got the first down to continue their drive after Ewers found Golden on the short out route. Texas would settle for a 22 yard field goal by Bert Auburn to extend their lead over the Sun Devils to 17-3 with just under 8 minutes to go in the first half.

Arizona State would start their drive on their own 25 after the touchback on the kickoff. They would manage to drive into Longhorns territory again, but were one again stopped on a turnover on downs with the Texas defense stepping up. The Longhorns would get the ball to start their drive on their own 38, up 17-3 with 5:09 remaining in the half.

Arizona State’s defense would step up and force a three and out. They would start their drive after a touchback on the punt on their own 20 yard line. However, they would be forced to punt after being unable to get a first down. But then the Sun Devils punt team performed a fake punt and the punter, Kanyon Floyd would find Blazen Lono-Wong, a defensive lineman, down the right sideline for a big 32 yard gain on 4th and 9.

ASU would drive down to the Texas 19 yard line, and settle for a 36 yard field goal attempt, but it was blocked by the Texas defense with just :11 remaining in the first half.

The half-time score was at 17-3 in favor of Texas over ASU. Texas will have the ball to start the second half.

The Arizona State defense came out of the locker room ready to go as they sacked Quinn Ewers twice on the way to forcing a three and out and a punt. ASU would get the ball on their own 38 yard line after a fair catch.

The Sun Devils would drive down the field to the Texas 2 yard line. But the Longhorns defense would step up and stop the Arizona State running game on both third and fourth down. Turnover on downs, 7:43 remaining in the third quarter.

On the first defensive play, Arizona State would force a SAFETY after forcing a fumble (recovered by Ewers in the end zone) and tackling the Longhorn in the end zone. The score now is 17-5 with 7:38 remaining in the third quarter.

After the kickoff, ASU would start their next drive on their own 31 yard line. The Sun Devils would again drive inside of the Red Zone but stall once again and be forced to settle for a 36 yard field goal by Carston Kiefer. They still trail Texas 17-8 with :41 remaining in the third quarter.

After an 11 yard reception by Jayden Blue (Texas RB) to their own 37 yard line, Texas will be starting the fourth quarter with a 17-8 lead and a first down. They would continue their drive down the field, capped off by a Quinn Ewers 5 yard touchdown run to the right. The Longhorns now lead the Sun Devils 24-8 with 10:17 remaining in the Chic-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

During the Arizona State drive, Cam Skattebo would throw the ball to Malik McClain for a 42-yard touchdown! The two-point conversion was good (Leavitt to Xavier Guillory) and pull the Sun Devils to within 24-16 of the Longhorns with about 6:30 remaining in the game.

On the ensuing Texas drive, quarterback Quinn Ewers would attempt to hit Isaiah Bond down the middle but it would be intercepted by Javan Robinson on the ASU 21 yard line.

On the very next play, Leavitt would find Cam Skattebo down the left sideline on a 62 yard pass down to the Texas 8 yard line. Two plays later, Texas would be called for pass interference on an incomplete pass from Leavitt to Guillory in the left corner of the end zone. ASU would have the ball on the Texas 2 with a first down.

Arizona State would score on a direct snap to Cam Skattebo, rushing up the middle for the touchdown. After a failed two-point conversion, Texas was called for holding and give ASU another shot. And once again Cam Skattebo delivered with the two-yard run up the middle.

We are TIED, 24-24 at the Chic-Fil-A Peach Bowl between Texas and Arizona State. Nobody saw this coming. This could be one of the biggest upsets in bowl history.

The ASU kickoff would go out of bounds and Texas would start their drive on their own 35 yard line. They would drive down to the ASU 31 yard line and attempted a 48 yard field goal by Bert Auburn. But the kick was NO GOOD! ASU would take over with 1:39 remaining and an opportunity to win the game on this drive.

On a 3rd and 15, Sam Leavitt would pass the ball to Melquan Stovall over the middle for 10 yards. Stovall got hurt on the play and the play was reviewed for targeting. The play was reviewed and deemed as “no targeting.”

Texas would drive down the field to the ASU 18 yard line and attempt a game winning field goal by Bert Auburn. And the 38 yard attempt was NO GOOD! We are going to overtime in the college football playoffs!

Arizona State got the ball on the first possession of overtime. And they continued the momentum at the end of regulation with a 3 yard rushing touchdown by Cam Skattebo. The extra point was good and Arizona State took a 31-24 lead in the first overtime.

Texas would answer on a 4th and 13 on the ASU 28 yard line. Quinn Ewers would kit Matthew Golden down the middle for the 28 yard touchdown. The extra point was good and we’re going to the second overtime.

Texas would get the ball to start the second overtime and on their first play, Quinn Ewers would find Gunnar Helm to the left for the touchdown. The two point conversion was good with Ewers once again finding Golden in the end zone.

Arizona State would need to match the touchdown and get the two point conversion to send the game into a third overtime.

But on a 3rd and 8 from the Texas 10 yard line, Sam Leavitt’s pass, intended for Melquan Stovall would be intercepted by Andrew Mukuba, sealing the victory for Texas and punching their ticket to the SemiFinal round of the College Football Playoffs. They will play at the Cotton Bowl versus the winner of the Rose Bowl between Ohio State and Oregon.
