If you love pitching, then the first five innings were for you! Jack Flaherty and Zac Gallen were going back and forth, holding each others offense scoreless through five innings. The Diamondbacks were the first on the board in the bottom of the sixth after a Ketel Marte triple to left field scored Corbin Carroll from first.

This hit extended Ketel Marte’s hit streak to 17 games. Not only is that a league-leading hit streak, but it is the longest hit streak of Ketel Marte’s career. Joc Pederson would immediately follow with a single to Right Field, knocking in Marte and extending the Diamondbacks lead to 2-0.

In the top of the 7th inning, Detroit would flex their muscles for the first time against Gallen. With Gio Urshela standing on second base, and two outs, Javier Baez would knock in Detroit’s first run with a double to left field. This was followed by (former Diamondback) Carson Kelly’s RBI single to right field, scoring Baez

This would be the end of Zac Gallen’s superb night, giving way to Joe Mantiply. Gallen would end the night with 6.2IP, 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out ten.

After an intentional walk, which loaded the bases, Mantiply would give up a bases-clearing triple to left field to Wenceel Perez, giving the Tigers a 5-2 lead. After a Matt Vierling pinch-hit walk, Gio Urshela would hit an RBI signs to center, scoring Perez and extending the Tigers lead to 6-2.

The Tigers would send 11 batters to the plate in the top of the 7th.

In the top of the 8th inning, with Kevin Ginkel on the mound for the Diamondbacks, the Tigers would add to their lead, once again thanks to former Diamondback Carson Kelly. After the Tigers started the inning with a pair of singles, Kelly would hit a double to left field, scoring Torkelson. Later in the inning, a Wenceel Perez sacrifice fly would knock in the 8th and final run, scoring Baez.

The winning pitcher is Jack Flaherty (6.0IP, 5H, 2ER, 2BB, 9K). He gets his first win on the season (1-3). The losing pitcher goes to Zac Gallen.

​The Diamondbacks and the Tigers will play the final game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon. The Diamondbacks will look to Jordan Montgomery to try and slow down a Tigers offense that has scored a total of 20 runs in the first two games. Detroit will counter with Matt Manning.
