Smith Starts on Pole, Early Caution Sets the Tone

The NASCAR Xfinity Series delivered a thrilling race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with intense battles, strategic pit stops, and a dominant performance from Justin Allgaier leading to victory. Sammy Smith secured the pole position, his third career pole, with Carson Kvapil lining up beside him in second. Connor Zilisch and Taylor Gray completed the second row, while fan favorites Sam Mayer and Justin Allgaier started in the third row.

The green flag waved, but it wasn’t long before trouble struck. On just the second lap, Parker Retzlaff and William Sawalich tangled coming out of Turn 2. Sawalich, possibly nudged from behind, lost control and slammed into the outside wall. Retzlaff managed to avoid serious damage, spinning but keeping his car off the wall. The early caution sent drivers back to pit road, with Retzlaff taking four fresh tires before rejoining the race.

Stage 1: Allgaier Takes Control

When racing resumed on lap 6, Smith initially held the lead, but by lap 14, it was Allgaier who powered to the front. His experience at Las Vegas was evident—coming into this race, he had more second-place finishes, top fives, stage wins, and laps led at this track than the rest of the field combined.

Drama unfolded near the back as Josh Williams, running in last place, struggled with respiratory issues. As a precaution, his team prepared Ty Dillon to take over. Williams managed to complete the first stage before handing the car off.

Allgaier took the Stage 1 win, followed by Aric Almirola, Carson Kvapil, Connor Zilisch, and Taylor Gray. Pole-sitter Smith fell to sixth.

Stage 2: Almirola Fights Back

A shuffle on pit road saw Aric Almirola emerge as the new leader for the restart. Jesse Love, however, suffered a setback with an uncontrolled tire penalty, forcing him to the rear of the field.

As the second stage progressed, Allgaier charged forward again, climbing from seventh to second by lap 68. Meanwhile, Austin Hill made an unscheduled pit stop due to a suspected loose left-rear tire, costing him valuable track position.

With two laps to go in Stage 2, Allgaier made a bold move to reclaim the lead, only to slide up the track, allowing Almirola to pounce and retake control. The stage ended with Almirola on top, marking his eighth career stage win and the first Toyota stage victory of the Xfinity season.

Final Stage: Penalties Shake Up the Race

Pit stops under caution set the stage for an intense final run. Almirola led off pit road, trailed by Smith, Allgaier, Brandon Jones, Taylor Gray, and Jesse Love. However, Taylor Gray was hit with a costly safety violation penalty.

On the restart with 102 laps remaining, Almirola jumped ahead but was soon challenged by rookie Connor Zilisch, who used the outside lane to take the lead for the first time. However, Allgaier wasn’t finished. With 72 laps left, he found an opening on the inside and surged back to the front.

Green flag pit stops began with 56 laps to go, with leaders coming in for fresh tires and fuel. A flurry of penalties altered the race’s complexion—Smith and Zilisch were both caught speeding, while Jeb Burton committed an equipment violation. All three had to serve pass-through penalties, putting them a lap down.

Once pit stops cycled through, Allgaier emerged as the leader with Almirola, Love, Mayer, and Hill chasing him down.

Final Laps: Allgaier Seals the Deal

With nine laps remaining, Carson Kvapil, running eighth, had to pit for fuel, dropping him to 17th. Up front, Allgaier kept his composure, maintaining a steady lead over Almirola. When the checkered flag waved, it was Allgaier celebrating his first win of the 2025 season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Almirola finished second, followed by Jesse Love, Austin Hill, and Sam Mayer. This victory extended Allgaier’s winning streak to nine consecutive seasons and gave Junior Motorsports its 90th career win.
