After dropping Friday’s series opener and blowing a solid start by Zac Gallen, the Diamondbacks needed a bounce back game with Jordan Montgomery on the bump.

Montgomery was coming off of a no-decision in his last start against Detroit on May 19th. In today’s start, he kept the Marlins off the scoreboard until the 6th inning when he allowed two earned runs, which cut the Diamondbacks lead to 3-2. He would finish the inning out with an official line of 6.0IP, 9H, 2ER, 4K, on only 77 pitches.

You may wonder why he was pulled with just 77 pitches and the lead. Apparently, Torey Lovullo knew exactly what he was doing. The bullpen then threw three scoreless innings, with Thompson, Mantiply, and Sewald keeping the Marlins off the board and preserving the win for Montgomery. Paul Sewald would get his 4th save on the season, with Montgomery getting his 3rd win.

Offensively, the Diamondbacks managed just five hits on the evening, and did all of their damage in the first two innings. Christian Walker would drive in the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st with a double to right field, which scored Carroll from second. Lourdes Gurriell Jr. immediately followed with an RBI double of his own to center.

In the bottom of the second inning, Corbin Carroll would bring in Eugenio Suarez home with a sacrifice fly.
