For years, Sheldon Creed had been the guy who came this close.
Second-place finishes. Late-race heartbreak. Missed opportunities by inches.
On Saturday, February 21st at EchoPark Speedway, that narrative changed.
In a dramatic, pack-racing showdown at the Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250, Creed delivered under pressure, capitalized on late-race chaos, and captured his first career victory in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
It wasn’t handed to him.
He earned it.
And it may have just shifted the early championship picture.
Race Overview: 163 Laps of Controlled Chaos
EchoPark Speedway’s 1.54-mile superspeedway-style layout once again produced tight drafting, constant shuffling, and strategic aggression.
From the green flag, the field ran nose-to-tail in two and three-wide formations. Clean air mattered — but drafting alliances mattered more.
Austin Hill appeared dominant early.
But the story wasn’t finished yet.

He wasn’t flashy.
He was patient.
Final Stage: The Breakthrough
The final 73 laps were classic EchoPark intensity.
Drafting lines surged and stalled. Bump-drafting was precise. One small miscalculation meant losing five spots instantly.
With under 15 laps remaining, the race pivoted.
A late-race incident involving Austin Hill and Ross Chastain — two of the strongest trucks all afternoon — opened the door.
Creed didn’t hesitate.
He positioned himself perfectly on the restart, received the right push at the right time, and cleared for the lead entering Turn 1.
Behind him, Parker Retzlaff and Nick Sanchez scrambled to organize a counterattack.
It never materialized.
Creed hit his marks, defended both lanes, and crossed the finish line for the most emotional win of his O’Reilly Auto Parts Series career.

Major Storylines from EchoPark
1️⃣ Sheldon Creed’s Redemption Moment
After 15 runner-up finishes in the series, Creed finally closed the deal. The composure in the final laps showed growth and maturity.
This wasn’t luck.
This was timing, execution, and experience.
2️⃣ Austin Hill’s Dominance — and Disappointment
Winning both stages but not the race stings. Hill remains one of the most dangerous drivers in the draft, but superspeedway racing rarely guarantees outcomes.
3️⃣ Parker Retzlaff’s Consistency
Back-to-back strong finishes to open 2026 establish Retzlaff as an early championship player.
4️⃣ Nick Sanchez Emerging
A third-place run adds serious momentum and valuable points in a format where consistency matters.
5️⃣ Youth Movement
Corey Day, Jesse Love, and Taylor Gray continue showing they belong at the front of this series.
Points Implications Under The Return of “The Chase”
With NASCAR reverting back to The Chase format, wins now earn more points — but do not automatically guarantee a playoff spot.
The Top 16 in points qualify.
That means:
Creed’s victory gives him a significant early boost. Hill still holds a strong points position thanks to stage sweeps. Retzlaff and Love are building steady foundations.
Two races in, the standings are already tightening.
What This Means Heading to Circuit of the Americas
February 28th – COTA
Now the script flips completely.
From drafting packs at 185 mph to heavy braking zones and technical corners, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series heads to Circuit of the Americas (COTA) — one of the most technical tracks on the calendar.
COTA Demands:
Superspeedway momentum doesn’t guarantee road-course success.
Drivers to Watch at COTA
Creed now arrives at COTA with confidence — and no more “almost” label.
The Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 will be remembered as the race where Sheldon Creed finally broke through.
EchoPark delivered speed.
It delivered drama.
It delivered redemption.
Now the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series heads to a completely different battlefield at COTA — where drafting won’t save you, and braking precision separates contenders from pretenders.
The championship picture is taking shape.
And Sheldon Creed just made it very interesting.
