Suns Hammer Jazz 118–96 on Halloween, Snap Skid Behind Booker’s 36

Saturday, November 01, 2025

The Phoenix Suns put together their most complete performance of the young season, blasting the Utah Jazz 118–96 with an emphatic wire-to-wire effort. Phoenix blitzed Utah 37–17 in the opening quarter, led 54–40 at halftime, and never let the Jazz sniff a comeback.

Booker sets the tone
Devin Booker was sensational: 36 points with 9 assists and 5 rebounds, controlling tempo and punishing every coverage Utah tried. His early shotmaking keyed the 20-point first-quarter avalanche that effectively decided the night.

Balanced help around the star
Jordan Ott’s rotation delivered sturdy, mistake-free basketball around Booker:

  • Grayson Allen: 14 points, timely threes and solid spacing.
  • Royce O’Neale: 13 points, veteran glue plays and corner triples.
  • Ryan Dunn: 13 points, 10 rebounds, high-energy boards and cuts.

Phoenix’s decision-making popped: the Suns turned it over just nine times while forcing 21 Jazz turnovers, flipping the possession game and fueling runouts.

Ott’s imprint shows
In his first season as head coach, Jordan Ott has emphasized defensive activity and ball security—both on display in this one. (Ott was hired June 2025.)

Jazz limited to one-man punches
Lauri Markkanen kept scoring (33 points) and logged his fourth straight 30-point game, while Keyonte George flirted with a triple-double (17-8-9). But Utah’s miscues and Phoenix’s discipline smothered any momentum.

Context that matters

  • This was an NBA Cup group play game—important for early tiebreakers and confidence.
  • The Suns’ core looks different this year; Kevin Durant is no longer on the team, making Booker’s usage and the wing/forward committee even more central.

Phoenix hosts the Spurs on Sunday, looking to stack wins and keep building Ott’s identity: pressure on defense, clean possessions, and Booker-led creation with smart spacing around him.
